  Why Certify?
Among government financial managers, the CGFM has become known and appreciated. It is a mark of distinction and offers you a wide range of important benefits. It:

How to apply

  1. Fill out the CGFM application form along with a non-refundable fee of $85.
  2. Fax (703.562.0361) or mail to AGA (2208 Mt. Vernon Avenue, Alexandria, VA 22301) the CGFM application form and a copy of your transcript.
  3. Once your CGFM application and transcript are received and processed, the Office of Professional Certification will mail you an eligibility letter with instructions on how to purchase your examinations. The letter is usually sent out within 2-3 weeks of receipt of your CGFM application and proof of bachelor's degree.
  4. Submit a Work Verification Form as soon as you have at least two years of professional-level experience in the government financial management field. You do not have to submit this form before taking the examinations, but it must be submitted before the designation can be granted.
  5. Study for the exams. Our chapter has purchased study guides for each of the three exams. CGFM candidates are encouraged to borrow these study guides to help pass the exam. Click here to review our CGFM study guide policy.
  6. Following the instructions on your eligibility letter, purchase CGFM examination(s) on the AGA website. Upon payment, print the Test Authorization Letter.
  7. Follow the instructions on the Test Authorization Letter to make a testing appointment at a Prometric Center near you.
  8. After you complete a CGFM examination at a testing center, you will immediately receive a pass/fail score on your computer.
  9. Once all three exams are completed, there is nothing left to do on your part. AGA will inform you when you are officially a CGFM and later mail you your certification.

To find a CGFM testing location, on the AGA’s page on the Pearson VUE website, click on 'Locate a Test Center'. Select United States or Canada for country and then city or zipcode you are looking for, and a list of closest Pearson Test Centers will be listed.

CGFM Proclamations

Montgomery County, Prince George's County, the State of Maryland and Anne Arundel County have all recognized the CGFM certification for the month of March 2011. Click on the links to view the proclamations.
